POSITION TITLE:

Program & Training Specialist for the Education Project

SUMMARY:

The PTS-ED is responsible for the design and delivery of all technical training over the Volunteers’ 27 months of service for Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs). The PTS-ED is expected to train Volunteers on literacy skills for children in grades 1-4, how to support teachers to improve their skills in teaching literacy, how to enhance the learning environment in primary schools and how to collaborate with the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and parents to help adults support their children’s learning. In addition, the PTS-ED is responsible for coaching and mentoring Volunteers to become effective partners in community development.The PTS-ED also assists the Program Manager- Education (PM-ED) in identifying Volunteers’ work sites and counterparts, developing their job assignments, and conducting site visits. The PTS-ED is a member of the Program and Training unit and represents Peace Corps Guyana with governmental officials and representatives of NGOs and Guyanese organizations. This position is supervised and evaluated by the PM-ED.

 

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Associate’s degree in education, project management, community development or relevant field; bachelor’s degree preferred
• Community Development

 

DESIRED

• Two (2) years’ teaching experience in Guyana
• Two (2) or more years’ progressively responsible experience in Education field and/or community development
• One or more years’ experience teaching or training adult learners
• Strong experience with group facilitation and session plan design
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with Peace Corps staff (American and Guyanese) and Volunteers
• Ability to develop and maintain mid-level contacts within the host government, international aid agencies, and private sector
• Ability to plan, organize and execute specific projects within the project and to prepare precise, analytical reports
• Computer literate with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
• Excellent oral, written and electronic presentation skills
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Guyana, including to hinterland communities
• Willingness to work flexible hours (extended work hours, weekends, holidays, etc.)
• Willingness to live away from Georgetown Monday through Friday during some training events, including for the majority of a 10-week pre-service training program for new Peace Corps trainees held on the Essequibo coast from June – August each year

 

Qualifications:

• All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a motor vehicle with a manual and automatic transmissions in urban and rural settings.
