Description
Under the supervision of the Quarry Manager, the incumbent will be part of the team dedicated to construction management and the development of local and international mining projects. The Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
Requirements
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in the Health and Safety environment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, including the Guyana Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSH Act) and OSHA regulation.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer in an industrial or relevant setting.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials, workplace risks, and safety best practices.
- Experience in developing and implementing health and safety policies and reports.
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting safety statistics
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations while regularly reviewing, updating, and effectively communicating them.
- Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement preventative measures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
- •Ensure workers understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Implement risk control measures and monitor their effectiveness.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans.
- Maintain and update incident and corrective action logs while providing statistical reports to management.
- Maintain safety records and ensure documentation of incidents, audits, and compliance reports.
- Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures.
