Background:

The Government of Guyana is undertaking a landmark Gas-to-Energy (GTE) Project aimed at leveraging the country’s natural gas resources to deliver sustainable and affordable electricity. To support the successful execution of this transformative initiative, the Gas-to-Energy Secretariat is inviting applications for 5 positions: Project Manager (3) and Legal Counsel (2)

2. Position: Legal Counsel

Role Summary:

The Legal Counsel will provide legal support across all phases of the Gas-to-Energy Project, ensuring compliance, minimizing risk, and advising on regulatory and contractual matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft and review project agreements (PPAs, EPC contracts, Joint Venture Agreements, etc.).

• Negotiate agreements and contracts and manage to ensure compliance.

• Manage legal risks.

• Provide legal guidance on contracting, licensing, land acquisition, and stakeholder agreements.

• Support dispute resolution and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

• Law degree (LLB or higher); must be admitted to practice in Guyana.

• Minimum of 5 years of legal experience – experience in oil/gas sector preferred.

• Strong knowledge of commercial and contract law.

• Excellent researching and drafting environments an advantage.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft 365, ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
