The Guyana Tourism Authority is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their team and contribute to the growth and development of Guyana’s tourism sector through financial management, reporting, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, compilation, and timely dissemination of monthly financial reports.
- Maintain accurate records of cash floats, petty cash, vouchers, cheque disbursements, income, and bank statements.
- Process payments and prepare supporting documentation, including cheque vouchers, petty cash vouchers, and bank transfers.
- Manage daily petty cash disbursements and recoupments, and update cash books accordingly.
- Support the preparation of monthly payroll, deductions, salary bank deposits, payslips, gratuity, and leave payments.
- Maintain financial records, asset registers, and inventory of real property and equipment.
- Input payment vouchers and assist with general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and expense reporting.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and departmental budget submissions.
- Provide guidance to department heads on budget preparation and expenditure tracking.
- Assist with the management of procurement processes in compliance with National Procurement and Tender Administration regulations and GTA’s internal policies.
- Support audits by liaising with external auditors and preparing required documentation.
- Assist with the computation of taxes and preparation of tax-related documentation in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Support the management and reporting of donor-funded programmes to ensure alignment with donor requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date Government accounting systems and standards.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Minimum Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Level II OR a Diploma in Accounting with at least 4-5 years relevant working experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Government Accounting, procurement procedures, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Accounting Software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organisational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve targets within defined timelines.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Salary
