LEGAL OFFICER
Applications arc invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Legal Officer at the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law with strong academic credentials.
- Certificate of Legal Education and Called to the Bar to practice Law in Guyana and/or a Master’s Degree in International Maritime Law from a recognised academic institution.
- Knowledge of the Law of the Sea, Shipping, and/or Marine Environment would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of relevant computer applications.
- Relevant experience.
Major Responsibilities:
Major Responsibilities:
- Providing legal and regulatory support to all Divisions, and Units within MARAD.
- Act as a point of contact to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory inquiries involving shipping, maritime safely and security matters.
- Attend internal meetings and coordinate and implement follow up actions where action is required from the Legal Services Division.
- Instruct and manage external stakeholders as instructed.
- Assist in Legislative Review and Update.
- Assist in the development of internal policies, procedures, best practices and compilation of international and regional precedents.
