The Pharmacist will be responsible for providing pharmacy services to patients/medical practitioners and overseeing the smooth and efficient running of the Pharmacy. His/her main duties include preparing and administering appropriate pharmaceuticals to patients by either executing a physician’s order or by addressing the patient’s problems and needs. Additionally, the Pharmacist receives, compounds, fills prescriptions, dispenses pharmaceuticals, consults with clients regarding the nature and use of the drugs and trains and/or supervises personnel. The Pharmacist monitors the quality, safety, and use of medicines, requiring a high level of involvement and interaction with patients. This role requires the candidate to be trustworthy and possess the ability to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
  • Must be licensed with the Pharmacy Council of Guyana
  • 5+ years of senior-level community pharmacist experience.
  • Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite primarily Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-starter and capable of operating with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • High level of integrity and compassion
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule, including extended days, holidays, evenings, and weekend hours.
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment.
  • Demonstrated relationship building skills across large/diverse people business.
  • Be able to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment completing objectives efficiently with a sense of responsibility.

Responsibilities

This position is “hands on” and includes but not limited to the following essential duties:

  1. Dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and other medical professionals.
  2. Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy and to evaluate their suitability for the patient.
  3. Provide information/advice about drugs, their side effects, correct dosage, and proper storage.
  4. Provide other health advice such as guidance on avoiding practices harmful to one’s health.
  5. Organize the pharmacy efficiently to make the identification of products easier and faster.
  6. Maintain full control over delivering, stocking and labelling medicine and other products and monitor their condition to prevent expiration or deterioration.
  7. Ensure that expired, damaged, or recalled drugs are segregated, maintained and labelled as per regulatory requirements.
  8. Develop and maintain policies and standard operating procedures for pharmacy operations.
  9. Ensure that all licenses and certifications are kept up to date and renewed as required.
  10. Keep accurate records including but not limited to pharmacy files, patient records, inventories, registry of poisons, narcotics, or controlled drugs.
  11. Plan, implement and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labelling pharmaceuticals to ensure they meet legal requirements.
  12. Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications.
  13. Liaise with the procurement team on the ordering and purchasing of pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, or drugs.
  14. Ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained at all times.
  15. Analyse prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  16. Advise patients on medication brands, medical equipment, or healthcare supplies.
  17. Coordinate and liaise with internal parties to support intercompany activities.
  18. Coordinate and liaise with external parties like regulators or government authorities when required.
  19. Support and ensure compliance with all regulatory filing requirements to maintain the Company’s compliance.
  20. Assist in new processes and system implementation if/when required.
  21. Keeping informed about current legislation relating to the pharmaceutical industry. Stay up to date with emerging trends in the pharmaceutical and OTC retail industries.
  22. Manage the performance of team members by assigning responsibilities, scheduling team members to support various activities, setting goals, observing their performances, providing feedback, and by giving recognition.
  23. Monitor and ensure timely completion of all required training programs and provide coaching for all the team members within the department.
  24. Address issues and discipline team members if/when necessary
  25. Promote teamwork and motivate team members by setting expectations, monitoring results, and showing enthusiasm, and through vision sharing.
  26. Protect organization’s value by always keeping information confidential.
  27. Ensure total compliance with all corporate policies and consistently treat all team members fairly, while maintaining respectful relationships with coworkers.
  28. Communicate regularly with the team members through one-on-one discussions, answering questions, group meetings, soliciting input, and through open communication between the management and non-management team members.
  29. Complete any special assignments or other tasks as assigned.
