As the Optometrist, you will be responsible for providing primary vision care, including diagnosing and treating eye conditions, prescribing corrective lenses, and promoting eye health. And have excellent clinical skills, a passion for patient care, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in optometry from a school accredited by the Guyana Medical Board
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience
• Experience with contact lenses will be an asset
• Registered with the Guyana Medical Board and in good standing
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Proficient in the use of optical diagnostic devices
• Able to manage and priorities a heavy workload
• A strong focus on delivering good customer service
• Good analytical and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Conducts tests to determine if a patient is far-sighted or near-sighted and prescribes corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses or other treatment options like low-vision rehabilitation or vision therapy in helping blind persons
• Tests for glaucoma and other eye diseases caused by systematic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure and refers patients to an Ophthalmologist if necessary
• Educates and counsels patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, safety factors, correct reading habits and good nutrition and hygiene
• Schedules servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating or fine-tuning of devices and equipment to ensure that results are accurate
• Ensures that customer receive service that exceeds their expectations to encourage repeat visits
• Performs any other related duties requested by the Chief Optometrist
