Experience and Skills

Candidates must posses the following experience and skills

1. Valid Truck License – Manual Transmission
2. Ability to read and write
3. Excellent communication
4. Must be able to work as part of a team
5. Prior experience in sales will be an asset

Responsibilities

Salesman/Driver duties and responsibilities are as follows: –

1. Achieve sales budgets set on a monthly basis.
2.   At every service call, SALESMAN/DRIVER must ensure that they adhere to the following:
3. a) Rotation of goods;
4. b) Maintaining sufficient stock in the van in order to fill the requirements of customers;
5. c) Installation of posters and other advertising material;
6. d) Installation of display equipment, ensuring that only Company products are displayed on said equipment;
7. e) Merchandising of Company’s products and ensuring stocks are properly merchandised;
8. f)      Ensure goods received by customer are in keeping with invoice issued; and
9. g) Inform regular customers of new products or services and price changes, if any.
10. Service customers in sequence as listed on handheld daily route listing.
11. Promote sales through regular visit to customer and ensure that all customers are serviced on a weekly basis, except where fortnightly service is authorized by the Company.
12.   Listen to, document and resolve customers’ complaints regarding Company products or services, wherever possible. Report all such complaints made by customers regarding Company products or services to Management.
13.   Manage cash and inventory daily for the avoidance of ‘shorts’ (deficits) or ‘overs’ (surpluses) as the Employee is accountable for stocks in his/her van and ‘shorts’ would be deducted from the Employee’s Compensation (Note that vans are subject to random stock checks).
14.   Collect money from customers, issue change, and record transactions on customer receipts/invoices.
15.   Sell goods for cash unless credit sales or holdovers are authorized by Management.
16.   Ensure that authorized holdovers are paid on time as the Employee is responsible for paying any unauthorized or overdue holdovers  
17. Be responsible for recovering monies short through receipt of bounced cheques from customers.
18.   Must accept all legal forms of tender, inclusive of coins, from customers as a form of payment.
19.   Monitor stock loss and damages as the Employee is responsible for rejects which will be charged to the Employee’s account.
20.   Deposit all Company monies to the Company’s Cashier or authorized Company personnel on a daily basis.
21.   Be responsible for repayment of counterfeit money collected from customers and deposited with the Company.
22. Increasing and maintaining the existing customer base in the market by seeking out new customers and checking those existing customers who have not purchased goods for whatever period or reason.  This applies to traditional (shops/mini- marts) as well as non-traditional (e.g. veggie-marts, bars, etc) customers.
23. Update route listing daily – e.g. deleting customers no longer in existence and adding new customers.
24. Ensure that quantity of goods issued by warehouse corresponds with Load Request Form.
25. Track and monitor competitors’ products and activity 
26. Maintain proper rotation of goods on vans.
27. Be physically capable of loading and unloading stock from the van.
28. Be responsible for supervision and discipline of Sales Assistant.
29. Responsible for any loss of monies kept without authorization.
30. Maintain and secure the Company’s vehicle, stock, cash and any other Company property in your possession.

COMPANY PROPERTY

 Salesman/Driver will be responsible for:

–  Security of Company cash

–  Maintenance and security of Company vehicle

–  Goods on truck

–  Handhelds, printers, bill books and accessories

–  Brochures

–  All Company tools provided for merchandising

 COMPANY VEHICLE (VAN)     

Salesman/Driver must ensure that they: –  

1. Are in possession of a valid driver’s permit to enable the Employee to perform his Driver functions, and endorsement for driving the van which must be immediately renewed before the expiration date;
2. Practice safe and courteous driving while on the job;
3. Have vehicle insurance at all times in their possession. The Company shall be responsible for providing valid Insurance for the Company Van. However, the Company will not be responsible if the Employee is charged for failing to have the valid insurance certificate in the van.
4. Report all mechanical defects including malfunctioning air condition system to Management;
5. Do not attach unauthorized connections to the van’s electrical system (e.g. music system etc.);
6. Bear the cost of parts and repairs to sales van for an accident or any other damage to the van caused by the negligence of the Salesman/Driver;
7. Make certain that tyres, horn, lights, brake lights etc. are in good working condition on vans.  Employees will be held responsible if charged for any faulty equipment not reported.
8. Take responsibility for paying any ticket if charged with any road traffic offences such as driving over the speed limit, dangerous driving, using a cell phone whilst driving the Company’s van etc.
9. Have the Sales Assistant at the back of the van at all times when reversing.
10. Use the vehicle exclusively for the purpose of carrying out the business of the Company.
11. No unauthorized personnel allowed on the vehicle.
12. Vans must be locked and secured at all times, especially when away from the van attending to a customer.
