Job Title: GIS TECHNICIAN
Division: Land Information and Mapping
Section: GIS
Location: Head Office
Salary Band: Two (2)
Objective:
To accurately and timely convert maps, charts and other sources of geographic information into digital formats.
Main Responsibilities:

Receives and record forms, charts, maps, drawings and other sources of information to input into digital format.

Makes use of a range of data capture techniques (scanning, manual and screen digitising) to input spatial and a spatial data into the digital format.

Manipulates spatial data to create new land information products library.

Verifies accuracy and completeness of correspondence, documents or data sets.

Generates metadata
-
Ensure works are backed up to the server.

Undertakes other tasks relating to the creation, collection and manipulation of spatial data.
Working and reporting relationships:
-
Reports to: GIS Analyst.

Working relationships (internal): Staff within the Land Information and Mapping Division.
Job specifications:
-
Qualifications: 4 GCE O-Level/CXC (General) passes or equivalent qualification. English Language and Mathematics must be two of the subjects passed. Applicants must have completed the internal Land and Surveys Commission training or have acquired a Technical diploma in computer science from GTI.

Experience and knowledge: Must be computer literate.

Analytical and Logical Skills: Problem Solving. Planning and organising skills.

Personal Strengths: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. Integrity to ensure that all actions simultaneously conform to business, best practice and compliance requirements.
