Systems Technician – Guyana Revenue Authority
Job Purpose
To diagnose, repair, and maintain hardware and software components to ensure the smooth running of computer systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing a technical solution to users via Helpdesk request, physically going to the end-user and conveying complex information in practical business terms, to reduce downtime and maintain the level of efficiency.
- Diagnosing, repairing, and solving faults relating to workstations, networking, and printers, by analysing and troubleshooting the reported issue, using the knowledge base and/or research to solve the end-user’s problem.
- Preparing, deploying, and supporting all Information Technology (IT) equipment utilised by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), by setting up newly acquired equipment with the necessary software, peripherals, and configuration to ensure the users are connected to the network and can access the devices and perform their respective duties.
- Providing service to computers and computer peripherals by conducting preventative maintenance on workstations, printers, scanners, and other IT devices to reduce the occurrence of errors over time.
- Maintaining computer hardware by replacing defective parts, making minor adjustments, and repairs to reduce lost work time or low productivity due to faulty equipment.
- Documenting receipts and issuance of computer equipment for inclusion in the equipment records and inventory management application to track the movement of GRA’s assets.
- Report to the Operations Manager on all IT-related matters, such as replacement of obsolete workstations, damaged monitors, and damaged network outlets, via email, telephone, and face-to-face communication for inventory and budgetary allocation.
- Provide first-level support for all IT-related activities, including network operations, datacenter operations, user training, cybersecurity matters, cabling, and system documentation.
- Any other related duties assigned.
Requirements
- Diploma in Computer Science or any other equivalent qualification with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in the maintenance and support of networked computer systems. Windows 7 (and above), MCP, and A+ will be an asset.
- Sound knowledge of the vision, mission, mandate, goals, procedures, objectives and strategic plan of the Guyana Revenue Authority.
- Sound knowledge of client-server networks, operating systems, PC operating & desktop productivity tools.
- Sound knowledge of electronic engineering principles & practice to identify & solve problems.
- Excellent time management and customer service skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills.
- Ability to perform minor technical & manual maintenance on computer hardware.
- Ability to identify the nature of the problem & technical support required.
