Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to work as a Driver at Mezze Inc.?

In Guyana, drivers typically need a valid Guyanese driver's licence appropriate to the vehicle class (e.g., light motor vehicle or heavy-duty licence), and many employers prefer at least 2–3 years of driving experience. A clean police clearance certificate and a good driving record are commonly required. Some employers also value basic vehicle maintenance knowledge and a secondary school education.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a driver in this role?

Daily duties usually include transporting goods, staff, or passengers safely along assigned routes, conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections, and keeping the vehicle clean and fuelled. Drivers are also expected to maintain accurate logbooks or delivery records and report any mechanical issues promptly. Punctuality and careful handling of cargo or passengers are key expectations.

What is the work culture like for drivers in Guyana?

Workplaces in Guyana generally value punctuality, respectfulness, and reliability, so arriving on time and communicating clearly with supervisors is important. Drivers often interact directly with customers or clients, so courteous conduct reflects well on both you and the company. Flexibility with schedules, including occasional weekend or evening runs, is commonly expected.

What benefits can I expect as a driver in Guyana?

Benefits vary by employer but commonly include paid annual leave, sick leave, and contributions to the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) as required by law. Some employers may offer overtime pay, uniform allowances, or medical coverage for full-time staff. It is best to ask about the specific benefits package during the interview process.

What career growth opportunities exist for drivers in Guyana?

Drivers can progress to senior driver, fleet supervisor, transport coordinator, or logistics roles as they gain experience and demonstrate reliability. Obtaining additional licences, such as heavy-duty or specialised vehicle endorsements, can open doors to higher-responsibility positions. Building a reputation for safe driving and dependability is often the fastest path to advancement.

How do I apply for this driver position, and what do employers look for?

Applications are typically submitted via email or in person with an updated CV, copies of your driver's licence, police clearance, and references from previous employers. Employers look for a clean driving record, relevant experience, honesty, and strong knowledge of local routes and road conditions. Following up politely after applying can help your application stand out.
