HVAC PROJECT ENGINEER/MANAGER – ESSCO Guyana Inc.

The HVAC Project Engineer/Manager leads the technical design, project management, and execution of complex commercial, institutional, and high-end residential air conditioning installations. Operating as the engineering authority within the business, this role turns qualified leads from the sales and service teams into fully designed, accurately quoted, and flawlessly executed mechanical systems. The position manages projects end-to-end-from load calculations and equipment selection through sub-contractor supervision, site commissioning, and final client handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management & Field Execution o Plan, schedule, and direct installation projects from contract award to commissioning, controlling project scope, timeline, and material budgets.
  • Oversee on-site field installation teams, lead technicians, and sub-contractors, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and piping work adheres strictly to engineering drawings, manufacturer standards, and safety guidelines.
  • Commercial Estimating & System Design o Conduct heat load calculations, equipment selection, and piping/ductwork sizing for commercial HVAC opportunities (VRF systems, chilled water loops, packaged roof-top units, etc.)
  • Receive and generate qualified commercial leads, perform engineering site surveys, and develop precise technical proposals, bills of quantities (BOQs), and formal tenders.
  • Interface with architects, structural engineers, and general contractors during the pre-bid and design phases to ensure system integration and compliance with building codes.
  • Quality Control & Commissioning o Conduct quality assurance audits throughout the construction lifecycle, verifying pressure testing, evacuation standards, control wiring, and balancing.
  • Lead system startup, testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB), and final commissioning of complex refrigeration and hydronic systems.
  • Compile comprehensive hand-off packages for clients, including as-built drawings, operating and maintenance manuals (O&M), commissioning reports, and warranty documents.
  • Cross-Departmental Technical Support o Serve as the senior technical resource for sales reps and field technicians, providing guidance on difficult diagnostic issues or retrofits.
  • Transition completed projects seamlessly to the service department for ongoing Preventative Maintenance Agreements (PMAs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical degree/diploma) with 4-6+ years of progressive experience in commercial HVAC project design/management.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial air conditioning architectures-specifically Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF/VRV), chilled water central plants, air handling units (AHUs), dual-circuit evaporators, and building automation/control interfaces.
  • Proficient with load calculations, AutoCAD, and project scheduling tools.
  • Proven track record of managing project budgets, material procurement, subcontractor crews, and clients.
