INNOVATION & HSSE OFFICER – Recover Guyana

Recover Guyana is seeking a motivated and innovative Innovation & HSSE Officer to support the implementation of STEM and sustainability initiatives across its national programmes. The Innovation & HSSE Officer will assist with the integration of innovative solutions, field installations, monitoring activities, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) standards. The role will contribute to project implementation, safety awareness, compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement efforts, supporting the successful delivery of community-based initiatives and sustainable development outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of innovation, STEM, and sustainability initiatives across project sites.
  • Conduct routine field visits to monitor project activities and verify compliance with operational requirements.
  • Promote compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and safety observations, and report findings to management.
  • Support the delivery of HSSE orientations, toolbox talks, and awareness activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, corrective actions, and field activities.
  • Assist with data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for project activities.
  • Support the development and testing of innovative solutions that enhance project effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety resources.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on field activities, HSSE compliance, and project progress.
  • Perform any other duties assigned in support of organizational and project objectives.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, STEM Education, Project Management, Natural Sciences, or a related field.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, HSSE, First Aid, or a related discipline would be an asset.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in project implementation, field operations, community development, STEM programmes, or HSSE-related activities.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) principles and best practices.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct field visits and work effectively in diverse community and school environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with data collection, monitoring, and reporting is an asset.
