OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pharmacist is responsible for aiding customers by compounding and/or dispensing prescription medications, providing pharmaceutical information to healthcare professionals, monitoring customers’ drug therapies to avoid interactions with other medications, and providing pharmaceutical expertise to customers on the safe use of medications.

REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or pharmacology.
• Valid license to practice as a pharmacist.

Experience:

• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience as a staff Pharmacist.

RESPONSIBILITIES

RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

1. Dispense prescription medicines to the public;
2. Check dosage and ensure that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled (pharmacists are legally responsible for any dispensing errors);
3. Supervise the preparation of any medicines.
4. Keep a record of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes;
5. Sell over-the-counter medicines.
6. Counsel and advise the public on the treatment of minor ailments.
7. Advise patients of any adverse side-effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines/treatments.
8. Monitor blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
9. Oversee the ordering and safe storage of medical products
10. Keep up to date with current pharmacy practices, new drugs and their uses.
11. Sell healthcare and other products, such as toiletries, cosmetics and photographic items;
12. Promote sales and develop the department.
13. Manage, supervise and train pharmacy support staff;
14. Ensure showcase is kept locked at all times when not in use.
15. Any other tasks as assigned from time to time by any manager.

REMUNERATION

Salaries and Benefits

Salaries and Benefits are based on the company’s existing salary scheme, and benefits are in accordance with the laws of Guyana and the policies of the company. These are all provided for in the Contract of employment.
