Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and Guyanese statutory requirements.
- Post and reconcile journal entries, ledgers, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and adjusting entries.
- Ensure trial balances, schedules, and supporting documentation are complete and balanced.
- Review general ledger accounts for inconsistencies and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Assist with the preparation of cash flow statements, balance sheets, income statements, and notes to the financial statements.
- Ensure financial statements are properly formatted and ready for statutory filing and annual returns.
- Assist in planning and executing audit engagements for companies, sole traders, and non-profit entities.
- Prepare audit working papers and supporting schedules with a high degree of accuracy.
- Conduct bank reconciliations, debtor/creditor reconciliations, and fixed asset verification.
- Perform analytical review procedures and identify unusual variances or risk areas.
- Ensure audit files comply with firm standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support the preparation and filing of corporation tax, property tax, PAYE, VAT, and individual tax returns.
- Assist clients with compliance submissions to the Guyana Revenue Authority and Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority.
- Assist with annual returns and regulatory filings for incorporated entities.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding accounting records and outstanding information.
- Supervise and support junior clerks and trainees where required.
- Assist management with improving internal accounting and audit processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client matters.
Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) CXC/CSEC subjects Grades 1 or 2, including: Principles of Accounts Mathematics English A
- ACCA Level II or higher, CAT, Diploma in Accounting, Degree in Accounting, or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of accounting and/or audit experience.
- Experience preparing full sets of financial statements.
- Knowledge of Guyanese tax and compliance requirements is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting
