Description
The Tyre Technician performed standard maintenance, repairs, and replacement relative to all vehicle tires. The candidate will conducts regular/scheduled inspection, diagnostic and necessary adjustment and repairs to avoid or prevent unnecessary downtime and potential safety risk to driver/operator.
Requirements
- Sound Secondary Education
- Ability to operated vulcanizing equipment and tool.
- Ability to operate and interpret wheel balancing machine.
- Knowledge of safety measures and guidelines relative to vulcanizing equipment and tools.
- .Ability to read and write legibly.
- Ability to test drive vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Unbolt and remove the wheels from vehicles, using lug wrenches or other hand or power tools.
- Place wheels on balancing machines to determine counterweights required to balance wheels.
- Identify tire size and ply and inflate tires accordingly.
- Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects.
- Reassemble tires onto wheels and wheel on to vehicle (this includes, scraping, grinding, or sandblasting rims if required)
- Inspect tire casings for defects, such as holes or tears and perform necessary remedial work.
- Perform tire rotation if necessary, and buffing of defective area of the inner tube if required.
- Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tires in water baths and observing air bubbles.
- Vulcanize all tires (this involves, glued tire and placing appropriate patches over ruptures in tire casings and using rubber cement)
- Ensure replacement tubes and tire spares are available (this involves, reporting the need to respective supervision and follow up procurement)
- Separate tubed tires from wheels, using rubber mallets and metal bars or mechanical tire changers.
- Clean sides of whitewall tires, related equipment, parts, and tools.
- Perform schedule inspection of vehicle wheel/tires and make necessary arrangement for corrective actions.
- Any other related duties assigned.
