Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or education do I need to become a Pre-Seller at a company like Demerara Distillers Limited?
Most employers in Guyana require at least five CXC subjects including Mathematics and English. A diploma in marketing, business, or sales is advantageous but not always mandatory. Previous experience in retail sales or distribution is often valued more than formal qualifications.
What does a typical day look like for a Pre-Seller in Guyana?
You will start early visiting assigned retail outlets, supermarkets, and bars to take orders and check inventory levels. You will build relationships with store owners, ensure proper product placement, and report market feedback to your supervisor. Expect significant travel across your territory, often using company transport or your own vehicle with a travel allowance.
How is the work culture for sales roles in Guyanese companies?
Punctuality and reliability are highly valued, as routes must be completed before outlets close. There is strong emphasis on meeting monthly sales targets and maintaining professional relationships with distributors. Dress code is typically business casual with a branded company shirt when visiting clients.
What benefits can I expect as a full-time Pre-Seller in Guyana?
Standard benefits usually include paid annual leave, sick leave, and public holidays as mandated by Guyanese labour law. Larger employers like DDL typically offer group medical insurance and pension contributions through the National Insurance Scheme. Some companies provide performance bonuses, fuel allowances, or phone allowances depending on the role.
What career progression is possible from a Pre-Seller role?
With strong performance, you can advance to Senior Sales Representative, Territory Sales Manager, or Route Supervisor within two to four years. Some professionals move into marketing, brand management, or distribution logistics. Continuous learning and building a reliable track record with major accounts accelerates promotion opportunities.
How should I apply for a Pre-Seller position and what do Guyanese employers look for?
Submit a well-organised resume highlighting any sales, customer service, or driving experience through the company's official careers portal or email. Employers prioritise candidates with a valid driver's license, clean police clearance, and references from previous supervisors. Demonstrating knowledge of local retail landscapes and consumer behaviour during interviews gives you a competitive edge.
